Amazing photographer & friend Luisa Pelipetz is having a show at LACMA's Art Rental & Sales Gallery, with an opening reception this Saturday from 5-7 pm. The show runs thru July 19th & I highly recommend you check it out!
took the day off and went to visit the mfaH, i specifically wanted to see charles ledray's work and i'm so glad i got to see it before the show closed yesterday, it is completely mesmerizing in person.
last time i was at sf moma, i saw a judith scott piece in person and it was mesmerizing. i tried to remember her name so i could look her up when i got home, but i forgot. luckily, i stumbled upon her work again on the internet and now that i've read her story i feel like i love these pieces so much more. please read about her story: here.
even though i've owned this book for weeks now, i still haven't gotten the desire to put it away on the bookshelf, it's living right next to my computer and i open and stare at it often, these images are so powerful. love how the body gets abstracted and lost to the point that you think you're looking at an inanimate object. would love to see these in motion too.
i highly recommend "a man named pearl," this film tells the story of pearl fryar and his amazing garden in rural south carolina. (i have a soft spot for topiary, self taught artists, and gardens and this documentary rolled all three into one!)
as if my list of "places i need to visit before i die" weren't long enough, i'm adding this garden in finland to it. veijo ronkkonen made close to 500 cement sculptures and are all displayed in his yard.
my good friend devin is having his first solo show at richard heller, the opening is this saturday, sept. 11th from 6-9 pm, and the show runs thru october 9th, i highly recommend it :)

hello! I want to share with you info on an upcoming documentary i will be creating artwork for & really excited about! the filmmakers will follow musician bobby bare jr. across country during his tour starting this august, and so without further ado, here's a video and words from the filmmakers:
Nashville’s best kept secret, one of the most amazing musicians you’ve never heard of, but should have…
MEET BOBBY BARE JR.
Son of country music royalty, father of three, nominated for a Grammy at age 6, he’s terrified of elves, he was at the forefront of the indie rock movement in the country music capital of the world, and if you catch him in a city near you, he’ll rock your face off.
“…The only real curiosity about Bare’s career to date is that he hasn’t yet become a big name in modern rock—the kind of artist whose every album is awaited with the eager anticipation…" — Nashville Scene
Bare Jr. has toured with – Bob Dylan, Aerosmith, The Black Crowes, Andrew Bird, The Drive By Truckers, Dr. Dog, The Decembrists, The Walkmen, Centro-Matic, The Bottel Rockets and The Old 97’s.
In the artists words, his music is ‘southern and it rocks, but its not southern rock’.
With his unique sound, Bare Jr. redefines both expectations, and what it means to be an independent artist in the 21st century. His style is a study in contrasts, going from gentle acoustic melodies to a guitar shredding riff in seconds. As he taps a tambourine with his foot, strums his guitar and tells stories in song – you’re captivated.
In the independent spirit of Bobby Bare Jr. and his music - we are implementing a grass roots tool to help raise awareness and generate funds for our film.
WE NEED YOU!
Help support The Untitled Bobby Bare Jr. Documentary on INDIEGOGO!
On indiegogo you can check out updated exclusive videos with Bobby as well as get VIP perks! Get an early release signed copy of Bobby's new CD, have a private meet and greet with Bobby and the band, get a credit on the film and much more!
We're ready to go for a ride as Bobby Bare Jr. rocks across the country and takes the music industry by storm. To truly capture Bare’s eclectic music style, we will shoot on mixed formats including 16mm, 8mm, HD, and utilize GoPro cameras to capture a true “fly on the wall” experience. We will also incorporate Ana Serrano’s unique art with stop motion animation emphasizing certain experiences on the road and help to bridge together our travels on tour.
But to make this happen we need you! You can be a driving force in bringing this film to life!
