puppy!

meet ONA! my new puppy & a ball of joy (also a ball of hard work and sleepless nights), she's one of five pups my aunt's dog, Leyla, gave birth to, i was lucky enough to meet her just a few hours after she was born...

i vow to never put clothes on it, but accessories? those are fair game...

i missed out on a lot of "classics" growing up but not on this one, we watched the sound of music in middle school and since then i've loved it, especially the puppet show set, look how ridiculously gorgeous it is...

grandma's decor

i miss my grandparents, they're off to mexico for the holidays and a christmas and new years without them is not the same, but these portraits of my grandparents and great-grandparents are keeping me happy at the moment. i love this tradition of commissioning portraits, they're often done from separate photographs of a husband and wife, we'll see if the newer generations in the family will embrace this tradition and keep it alive, i sure hope so or better yet, i'll make sure of it.

christmas ornaments

i don't know what happened to me this year but i'm not excited about thanksgiving at all, i'm all about christmas right now, and especially christmas ornaments, i like to make my own, but they're usually more on the elementary school crafty level (like my hello kitty tree from two years ago, with red glitter bows) but this year i want to make sophisticated-crafty ones, like so...

 and i'll get a one foot tree so i don't have to make that many.

just ignore the video and listen to the song, it's the best, buuuut it's driving me nuts that the only way i can listen to this song is with this video, i've search the internet for days now to buy the song but no luck, except a 78 single on ebay but i don't have a record player and it's $20 bucks, 'tan locos! and there are a bunch of covers of it on itunes (or maybe one of those is the original and this is a cover, oh i don't know) but they all suck! why world, why.

the wonder years...

the day the the wonder years dvds are finally officially released, you can bet i'll be camping outside best buy the night before (and i'll be the first in line) and when i finally have all six seasons in my hand i'll slowly walk up to the register and hand them over so the nice young lady can scan them, i'll pay and as soon as she hands me the bag with MY complete collection of the wonder years inside, there will be fireworks,  lots and lots of them...but until then i'll continue to watch three minute clips on youtube....

i've decided...

it's officially my summer of "watching movies i should of seen a looong time ago" like sixteen candles! yes, i had never watched that until like two days ago, and i know, i know, people are always surprised when they reference an 80's/90's classic and i'm like "nope, i've never watched that", but you see it's simple, i grew up in a spanish speaking household, so i spent my childhood watching spanish tv (mostly soap operas), listening to spanish music, etc etc, and i wouldn't trade that for anything in the world, it just means that now i have to catch up and while i have slowly caught up on alot of movies during my adult life, i still have alot to go.....ferris bueller's day off, pretty in pink, better off dead, the goonies, princess bride, and the breakfast club are on my queue and in the last couple of days i've watched sixteen candles, neverending story, say anything, cry-baby...oh but don't worry i didn't live too far under a rock, i do remember E.T. and i knew who michael jackson was and i didn't miss out on english cartoons or tv shows..just movies, so if you have any movie suggestions for me, suggest away! (oh yes and the images below are from "cry-baby" this girl wasn't even an important character in the movie, she was only on screen for like 4 seconds but i think that visually, it's the best part of the movie)

i'm slowly adding life to my work studio walls, i finally got shelves up! and i taped these old exhibition pamphlets from the hammer (they have the best pamphlets!)  song kun &  terry haggerty, in that order.

little men faces...

i seriously had to constrain myself on my recent trip to guatemala because if i didn't i would of bought the whole country, but these little guys were too good to pass up, i finally hung them up in my new studio and they make me smile AND creep me out at the same time....hmm "little men faces" sounds like a band name...

watch UP, it's brilliant! they don't make kids movies like they used to, they make them better now! also, while i'm on movies, i just finished re-watching "man on wire", another must watch...

peeps on my mind

i really enjoy watching videos on how things are made, AND i enjoy peeps, so these pictures make me happy, especially the second one where they're getting their eyes stamped! also, check out the "how crayons are made" video from sesame street, it's one of my favorites...

sweet treats

i couldn't resist ordering this "sweet treats" wrapping paper sheet online, i'm planning on hanging it up on my kitchen wall! i like how some of these sweets look more like architectural details than cakes, (the lemon cream can easily be the dome of an italian church) but then there's the tipsy cake, that one looks like a furry friend, i really want to draw eyes on him o _ o 

the wrapping paper also reminded me of this image from amy atlas i've been hanging on to for a while, it's clearly a picture of my dream birthday party...

hats

lately i've been spending a little too much time on etsy, (i gotta stop soon) and i just came across these little hats that are way too cool that i had to share, too bad i don't wear hats, although the pointy ones would be cool displayed as little wool sculptures, check out the rest of her lovely hats here.

strange coincidence

last year my friend mike gave me a painting for my birthday, and i soon as i saw it, i was tripping out a little cause it looked ALOT like my grandpa, check it out for yourselves, the proof is there... 

wait there's more,

i took this picture of my grandpa when i had my head painting class, that's actually the picture i used as reference to paint a portrait of him, the teacher didn't like the final product and made me cry during the final crit, i can't even look at that painting anymore cause i remember the time i cried, i just wanted a silly painting of my grandpa...and that's what mike's painting is, a silly painting of my grandpa minus the bad memories.

feather head

this is completely insignificant to anything & everything, but i'll say it anyway, 

i was at michael's (aka my crack) the other day and i couldn't resist buying this feather wig (it said "one size fits all", but i think they meant "one size fits a little head") either way i was suckered in by the packaging,

if i was a mannequin, i'd want to be her...
