During my latest trip to Houston I made sure to visit a few folk art landmarks.
First, The Beer Can House
The marbles imbedded in the cement was a nice surprise, and the sound of all those beer cans was also delightful.

Next, The Orange Show! a theme park, carnival, maze type thingy built by Jeff McKissack.
And Lastly, The Flower Man, who happened to be outside eating dinner. He invited us in and entertained us with his delightul stories.
halloween is definitely my favorite holiday so i just love this time of year, and it's only in october that i like to watch scary movies, they just seem right this time of year. one i like to watch every year is suspiria, not the greatest but the sets are fahbulous dawling.
finally saw sofia coppola's marie antoinette and first let me tell you that the movie is well really bad, unconvincing characters, no drama, no build up, it goes nowhere...and dunst! oh dunst! BUT the plethora of decadent, extravagant & luscious visuals made it so much fun to watch. (i felt like i needed all three adjectives to show how ridiculous over the top this movie is) you'll get your years worth of eye candy and girliness in two hours, for sure. cake, champagne, shoes, fancy dresses, gossiping, bows, ruffles, little puppies, chocolate, big hair, it's all there.

i missed out on a lot of "classics" growing up but not on this one, we watched the sound of music in middle school and since then i've loved it, especially the puppet show set, look how ridiculously gorgeous it is...
i miss my grandparents, they're off to mexico for the holidays and a christmas and new years without them is not the same, but these portraits of my grandparents and great-grandparents are keeping me happy at the moment. i love this tradition of commissioning portraits, they're often done from separate photographs of a husband and wife, we'll see if the newer generations in the family will embrace this tradition and keep it alive, i sure hope so or better yet, i'll make sure of it.
i'm excited to announce that my best friend sandy has a blog, it's dedicated to only pictures she takes with her camera phone, i helped her put it all together and after a few days of hard work it's ready for the world! please visit!
i don't know what happened to me this year but i'm not excited about thanksgiving at all, i'm all about christmas right now, and especially christmas ornaments, i like to make my own, but they're usually more on the elementary school crafty level (like my hello kitty tree from two years ago, with red glitter bows) but this year i want to make sophisticated-crafty ones, like so...

the day the the wonder years dvds are finally officially released, you can bet i'll be camping outside best buy the night before (and i'll be the first in line) and when i finally have all six seasons in my hand i'll slowly walk up to the register and hand them over so the nice young lady can scan them, i'll pay and as soon as she hands me the bag with MY complete collection of the wonder years inside, there will be fireworks, lots and lots of them...but until then i'll continue to watch three minute clips on youtube....
it's officially my summer of "watching movies i should of seen a looong time ago" like sixteen candles! yes, i had never watched that until like two days ago, and i know, i know, people are always surprised when they reference an 80's/90's classic and i'm like "nope, i've never watched that", but you see it's simple, i grew up in a spanish speaking household, so i spent my childhood watching spanish tv (mostly soap operas), listening to spanish music, etc etc, and i wouldn't trade that for anything in the world, it just means that now i have to catch up and while i have slowly caught up on alot of movies during my adult life, i still have alot to go.....ferris bueller's day off, pretty in pink, better off dead, the goonies, princess bride, and the breakfast club are on my queue and in the last couple of days i've watched sixteen candles, neverending story, say anything, cry-baby...oh but don't worry i didn't live too far under a rock, i do remember E.T. and i knew who michael jackson was and i didn't miss out on english cartoons or tv shows..just movies, so if you have any movie suggestions for me, suggest away! (oh yes and the images below are from "cry-baby" this girl wasn't even an important character in the movie, she was only on screen for like 4 seconds but i think that visually, it's the best part of the movie)
