my laptop keeps bothering me with "startup disk full", ugh. so i have to move tons of files to my external hard drive, and along the way i found this quick animation i did for tony kaye, it never went anywhere unfortunately, but that's what i quickly realized after graduating, half the projects that get proposed, don't end up happening :|

disasterology

earlier this week i went to a michel gondry Q&A slash DVD release event, and to my surprise there were disasterology calendars on sale! (if you haven't watched science of sleep this is the calendar the main character stephane illustrates) the real artist is baptiste ibar, here are my favorite months...oh also if you haven't watched science of sleep, you should! trust me, you'll love it.

February 9,1999: An avalanche destroys twenty chalets in Haute-Savoie. Twelve people die.

April 26, 1986: The fourth reactor of Chernobyl's nuclear power plant explodes. Thousands of people are exposed to radiation.

July 17, 1996: At the border of New York, TWA flight 800, a Boeing 747 carrying 230 passengers, explodes over the Atlantic. There are no survivors.

August 4, 1978: Eastman, Quebec. The worst road tragedy in Canada's history causes 41 deaths.

new work

thought i'd post these pieces here because i know it'll be a while before i can get to updating my website, these pieces are on display right now at the scion installation space in culver city, as part of papershapers, the show runs until may 2nd.

peeps on my mind

i really enjoy watching videos on how things are made, AND i enjoy peeps, so these pictures make me happy, especially the second one where they're getting their eyes stamped! also, check out the "how crayons are made" video from sesame street, it's one of my favorites...

sweet treats

i couldn't resist ordering this "sweet treats" wrapping paper sheet online, i'm planning on hanging it up on my kitchen wall! i like how some of these sweets look more like architectural details than cakes, (the lemon cream can easily be the dome of an italian church) but then there's the tipsy cake, that one looks like a furry friend, i really want to draw eyes on him o _ o 

the wrapping paper also reminded me of this image from amy atlas i've been hanging on to for a while, it's clearly a picture of my dream birthday party...

this american life

i just bought the second season of this american life, and it's amazing, i think i like it more than season one, but i still can't say i like it more than the podcast...hmm well maybe...yes, i do and one of the reasons would be the following chris ware animations, the first animation below was featured in season one, and i swear i must of watched it a thousand times already and it still amazes me, and he did one for the second season as well, (that's the second animation below), which i love too, but not as much as the first one...
