i was looking at pictures of chichicastenango (in guatemala) on flickr when i found this cemetary!! who wouldn't want to be buried in this cemetary? i definitely have to make it there on my trip to guatemala in may.

neighborhood flowers

on a run to my local walgreens today i noticed these awesome flowers in the parking lot, (the pink wrinkly ones with yellow in the middle & the purple fuzzy one pictured below) can't believe those live in a parking lot! so then i went around and grabbed other flower/plant thingies from my block and made an impromptu bouquet, and yes the blurriness in the last pix is on purpose, i liked that one the best.

beyond architecture

a few months ago i was asked to be part of a new book being published by gestalten and today i got my copy in the mail! and i made the back cover :) you can find more info & better pictures of it here.*sorry the pixs are a little blurry, didn't have the patience today to try and shoot these correctly..

point&click: tijuana

took a day trip with my grandparents down to tijuana yesterday, and i figured out that the only thing cuter than little baby jesuses are kissing piñatas. ( is that even how you pluralize jesus??)

rare sighting

i usually don't have the inclination to draw but i was invited to participate in an upcoming group drawing show at tropico de nopal, so i took on the challenge, and had a blast, i just finished the piece...the pattern and colors were inspired by the textile designs of the otomi indigenous people in mexico, and the subject matter deals with the current violence (some call it a civil war, and rightfully so) in mexico between the drug cartels and government enforcement agencies, the situation is extremely serious and getting worse down there, but i wanted to comment on it subtly and almost with a sense of humor, i used images of a marijuana leaf, coca plants, and opium poppies, images of a parrot, rooster and goat, (which in spanish are double entendres for marijuana, cocaine and heroin), the little guys on the right are representative of the drug cartels and the ones of the left are the mexican forces. i used colored pencils for this, but i'm really interested in painting something similar in gouache or using colored paper, oh i'm also thinking of perhaps making a print for my shop (since there's not much there right now :\ ) oh the possibilities...

one last thing...the show is next saturday, march 28th, all the info is on tropico's website..

lately i've been spending a little too much time on etsy, (i gotta stop soon) and i just came across these little hats that are way too cool that i had to share, too bad i don't wear hats, although the pointy ones would be cool displayed as little wool sculptures, check out the rest of her lovely hats here.

i went on a last-minute mini camping trip this weekend to joshua tree, these are the polaroids i shot there, i totally had an "american beauty" moment with the dead rabbit (not the plastic bag moment, but when the crazy kid films the dead bird moment), oh, the cacti in the last shot are called "jumping teddy bears", thought that was cute :) 

pattern inspired cards

ok so earlier today i was looking at the very first post i put up, and i noticed that i only have ONE post for my d.i.y. goodness section and that's lame and sad. i do stuff all the time! therefore, i decided to share this little project...since a few of my friends have a bday this weekend i needed to make birthday cards and this idea suddenly popped in my head...i took patterns i like and recreated them using colored paper, and voila!

estate sale finds

did a little shopping at an estate sale today, i got wrapping paper, a girls scouts of america music book, a pillow case, and a doily, all for $1.50! score! love the type of the girls scouts book, so fun.
